Great musical performance and a meal in Brunswick

It’s a great combination: dinner at one of Brunswick’s many fine restaurants and another spectacular performance at the Maine State Music Theater. Let’s start with the theater, which Linda and I have enjoyed for many years.

Pampered in Lincolnville

After decades of camping in tents and a VW van, Linda and I are now into pampering. And boy, do you get pampered at the beautiful Inn at Ocean’s Edge in Lincolnville. The drive down the short paved way to the inn’s ocean-side location is even beautiful, and we birded those woods the next morning, seeing a dozen species in a half hour.

A great get-a-way in Rockland and Rockport

After reading articles about 18 Central in Zest and Down East magazines, we were eager to dine there. Chef Patrick Duffy and his wife Jessica have created a restaurant that is unique, with very creative dishes and an ever-changing menu that keeps both locals and summer visitors flocking to this place. Be sure to get a reservation.

Meadowmere in our "home" in Ogunquit

Since “discovering” Ogunquit last year, we’ve been anxious to return to our “home” there, Meadowmere Resort, a very friendly and family-oriented inn with amazing amenities. In addition to the beautiful rooms and friendly staff, I like the ability to park our vehicle there and walk to the beach, the ocean-front walkway, and downtown stores and restaurants.

This trip, we picnicked at the beach, then walked the wonderful ocean-side paved Marginal Way, donated by a generous local builder in 1925. It’s a very popular walk with lots of nice benches.

We loved Portland's Mekong Asian Bistro!

After a long trip through the amazing and lengthy menu at Portland’s Mekong Asian Bistro, I looked up at Linda and said, “I’m lost honey. You’ll need to order for us.”

After looking through all the choices of Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese appetizers and entrees, the only thing I was sure of was the Mai Tai ($6.95). That did turn out to be a very good choice.

Cliff House in Amazing!

The Cliff House in Cape Neddick is, of course, on a cliff, and every one of their 132 rooms has an amazing ocean view. This is a place that pampers you, from their Cliff Top hot tub to the elegant spa sanctuary.

Scott, who checked us in, offered lots of great suggestions for the many things to do there. At that point, I knew we should have booked for more than one night!
